The International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce and its Enterprise Europe Network organised a round table discussion bringing Luxembourg companies together with EU and international institutions to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges of public procurement.
Public procurement is often perceived as a complex and demanding process. Yet, it remains an effective instrument for companies seeking to diversify their markets and access high-value contracts at European and international levels. The round table discussion “Let's Talk Public Procurement: Opportunities and Challenges”, held on 29 October 2026, provided a forum for dialogue between contracting authorities and the business community, with the objective of fostering a better understanding of procurement procedures while addressing the practical challenges faced by bidders. It also aimed to strengthen connections between companies and institutions and help businesses identify relevant procurement opportunities.
The round table opened with an introductory exchange followed by presentations from the World Bank and the Office for Infrastructure and Logistics in Luxembourg (OIL), who shared insights into their procurement activities, priorities, and expectations towards suppliers.
An interactive exchange and a live participant poll provided a closer look at the experiences of Luxembourg companies participating in public tenders. The discussions highlighted strong interest of businesses in public procurement markets and the practical barriers they continue to face when engaging with tender procedures. Participants identified qualification requirements, administrative burden, visibility of tender opportunities, bidding strategies and access to information as key challenges influencing their participation in public tenders.
This round table also allowed the contracting authorities to better understand the realities experience by economic operators and discussed potential avenues to improve accessibility, streamline procurement procedures, and encourage broader participation of Luxembourg companies in this instrument.
