Mission économique

Mercredi 26 Sep 2012 > Samedi 29 Sep 2012

Kazan, Tatarstan

The Chamber of Commerce will organise a multi-sectoral trade mission to the city of Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan. The delegation will be led by H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister, and the mission will take place on September 26-29, 2012

This official mission is a follow-up to the visit of H.E.Mr. Minnikanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan to Luxembourg on April 10, 2012 and the round table which was organised at the Chamber of Commerce in his presence. The very high number of participating companies and fruitful contacts demonstrated the inherent interest for this region. Moreover, the diversification of the Tatar economy figures as a priority on the agenda of the government and there is a high interest in skill-sharing with Luxembourg in this domain.

The Republic of Tatarstan, a sovereign state subject to international law, is associated with the Russian Federation on the basis of the Treaty on mutually delegated powers. The Republic holds a population of 3.7 million people on a territory of 68’000 sqm located on the Eastern frontier of Europe at the confluence of the Volga and Kama rivers. As of today, 60% of the Tatar economy is based on crude oil and oil related projects. Furthermore, Tatarstan ranks as being a highly business friendly Russian Region offering numerous business opportunities for Luxembourg companies, e.g. in the automotive sector as the Republic is centrally located in the regional automotive Cluster, but also in the sectors of ICT, banking and construction.

During the official mission, participants will have the opportunity of participating in a round table highlighting the economic strengths of Luxembourg as well as of the hosting region and the opportunities it offers in various domains. The business delegation may also register for individual business meetings which will be organised in cooperation with our local partner organisations in order to promote bilateral business contacts. A visit will also be organised to Kazan’s IT Park which is the largest business incubator in Eastern Europe. Please note that there is also a possibility of extending the mission to Tambov which houses major industrial sectors including engineering, metalworking, and manufacturing of agricultural equipment.
