China remains one of the world’s leading hubs for technological and industrial innovation. To explore these developments first-hand and reinforce cooperation, the Chamber of Commerce organised an Official Trade Mission to Hangzhou and Shanghai, bringing together 95 participants representing 56 Luxembourg companies, led by Fernand Ernster, President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Headed by Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, the mission focused on several sectors at the heart of China’s economic transformation, from artificial intelligence and robotics to automotive, smart mobility and digital technologies.
The first stop of the mission in Hangzhou offered the delegation the opportunity to immerse itself in an ecosystem where cutting-edge technologies are rapidly translated into industrial and commercial applications. Visits to Unitree Robotics, BrainCo, Rokid and Geely Auto offered insights into different facets of this innovation landscape. Humanoid robotics at Unitree, brain-computer interfaces at BrainCo, augmented reality and immersive technologies at Rokid, electric vehicles and smart mobility at Geely, illustrated the pace at which new technologies are developed and deployed in China.
This programme continued with the Yangtze River Delta–Luxembourg Business Forum, organised in cooperation with CCPIT Zhejiang. Bringing together institutional representatives and business communities from both countries, the forum explored prospects for further cooperation, including a panel discussion dedicated to artificial intelligence and robotics. Discussions continued over a networking lunch and 90 pre-arranged B2B meetings, giving Luxembourg companies the chance to engage directly with their Chinese counterparts and explore new partnerships.
Moving on to Shanghai, the delegation took part in the Shanghai–Luxembourg Business Seminar, organised in cooperation with CCPIT Shanghai, which served as a platform to further deepen the dialogue on economic relations between the two countries. A panel dedicated to the automotive sector provided an opportunity to discuss the transformation currently underway in the industry.
Among the highlights was the signing of several cooperation agreements. A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between MOGOX, SLG S.A. and Clément Bayard, while another MoU was signed between Inceptio Technology and Arthur Welter Transports. The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Solar Cleano China also concluded a cooperation agreement. Signed in the presence of Minister Lex Delles and President Fernand Ernster, these agreements reflect the business links being developed between Luxembourg companies and Chinese partners in technology, logistics and industry.
Following the seminar, the delegation attended a reception marking the 20th anniversary of the Consulate General of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office in Shanghai. The event brought together the Luxembourg delegation and key stakeholders of the local business community, highlighting two decades of Luxembourg’s institutional presence in Shanghai.
The final day turned to other aspects of China’s digital economy. At MOGOX and Shanghai International Automobile City, participants explored solutions related to electric vehicles, smart mobility and autonomous driving. A visit to Alipay provided insights into China’s digital payments and e-commerce ecosystem. Finally, a visit to Huawei focused on the applications of digital technologies and autonomous driving.
From Hangzhou to Shanghai, the mission gave Luxembourg companies a platform to engage with leading Chinese players, gain first-hand insights into technologies already being deployed at scale, and exchange directly with potential partners on their projects and prospects for cooperation. The company visits, networking receptions, business forums, B2B meetings and agreements concluded throughout the week helped foster new contacts and strengthen ties between Luxembourg and China.
This momentum will continue in the coming months with the Air Silk Road Forum Zhengzhou–Luxembourg, which will take place in Zhengzhou on 5 December 2026. Centred on the connectivity corridor between China and Europe, the forum will provide a further opportunity for dialogue on trade, logistics, investment and connectivity, while strengthening links between Chinese and European companies through Luxembourg
