Luxembourg’s successful return to Helsinki at SLUSH

The Chamber of Commerce, in close collaboration with Startup Luxembourg, organised a trade fair visit to the Slush from 29th November – 1st December 2023. 35 participants comprising of ecosystem partners startups, investors and business angels were a part of the delegation at this renowned startup event.

Slush is one of world’s leading startup events that gathers over 2000 investors ranging from VCs to angels, CVCs, and LPs. Over 12,000 attendees from all over the world flocked the alleys of Slush this year. Innovative startup stands, country pavilions, corporates showcasing their innovative road maps and the animated conference zones were some of the main features of this edition.

It also hosted its traditional Slush 100 whose winner received equity investment from the leading early-stage funds in Europe. Finally, the countless matchmaking meetings allowed startups to connect with investors and vice versa.

Luxembourg continued its tradition to host a side event organised by Startup Luxembourg, the Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg Private Equity & VC Association. The objective was to present Luxembourg’s dynamic startup ecosystem and address two important topics namely scaling startups and funding VCs in a complex economic situation. The event was moderated by Philippe Linster, CEO of the House of Startups. The session started with a presentation of Luxembourg’s economy startup ecosystem by Jonas Mercier, Coordinator of Startups Luxembourg.

The introduction was followed by a panel discussion on a topic of current relevance on - Accelerating growth and managing uncertainty. Moderated by Luxinnovation this session welcomed 3 startups namely Videobot, Passbolt, Hostaway as well as Le Village by CA.

The side event also included an introduction to Luxembourg’s VC environment and a panel discussion on fundraising from across Europe by Luxembourg Private Equity & VC Association. This panel welcomed 2 VCs namely Ilavska Vuillermoz Capital & Middle Game Ventures as well as the European Innovation Fund.

The last episode of the side event hosted a fireside chat on Business angels in challenging times between the Luxembourg City Incubator, Luxembourg Business Angels Network & Finnish Business Angels Network-FIBAN.

The side event was concluded by a networking session that allowed participants to revisit the topics touched upon earlier and explore investment opportunities.

The 2023 edition of Slush was certainly very promising. Given the success of this year’s edition, Luxembourgish companies showcased their interest in attending the next edition.
