The Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and its Enterprise Europe Network in collaboration with Startup Luxembourg organised a trade fair visit to the Mobile World Congress Barcelona MWC Barcelona from 27th February to 2nd March 2023. 21 participants from 16 companies participated in this visit to explore the power of connectivity in redefining the future of society.

Organised by GSMA, the 2023’s edition of MWC Barcelona was characterised by its tech giants, telecom operators as well as country pavilions showcasing their latest innovations and their futuristic roadmaps. The alleys were filled with scores of visitors who flocked to the 8 halls hosting this year’s event. The 2nd wave of 5G, novel use cases of 5G slicing, 6G, foldable tablets and Augmented Reality were the highlights of the Mobile World Congress.

The MWC Barcelona also showcased the full potential of disruptive technologies in the health, sustainability, retail, sports, mobility, entertainment and robotics industries. It illustrated how connectivity will shape the future of technologies such as the metaverse or web 3.0.

An interesting dimension of the MWC Barcelona was its start-up wing 4YFN (4 Years From Now) that demonstrated break through innovations of young companies from all over the world. This platform strategically allowed startups to connect with the Tech giants of the MWC, an audience they would find difficult to access otherwise.

The Luxembourg delegation enjoyed a rich programme that was developed with the support of the Department of Service Media & Communication of the Ministry of State and My Connectivity GIE. After a visit to the trade fair on day 1, a Meet & Greet networking evening was organised by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce together with Department of Service Media & Communication of the Ministry of State, My Connectivity GIE and Startup Luxembourg. Aiming to gather all the Luxembourg companies present at the fair, Ms Blanca Gallud, Honorary Consul of Luxembourg in Barcelona welcomed the delegation at this Meet & Greet.

The trade fair visit also integrated 3 varied guided visits to the stands of Vodafone, SES and Ericsson. It gave the delegation an insider view of the future generation of connectivity, path breaking use cases of 5G technology as well as the innovative strategy of these companies to stay ahead of their competition.

As an important telecom operator and technology provider in Luxembourg, the POST Telecom hosted the Luxembourg delegation for a networking dinner.

Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mr Chiristian Biever, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Spain said “The Mobile World Congress is a very important global stage that defines the future of connectivity. Being an important topic for Luxembourg, we have put in place a robust 5G strategy. It Is very encouraging to see all the important actors of the sector as well as startups and SMEs who are here to explore latest trends and how connectivity can revolutionise their business model.”

The participants of the trade fair visit also had a chance to participate in the Open Innovation Challenge organised by the Enterprise Europe Network Barcelona that proactively enabled business meetings between corporates/investors and technology providers.

This power packed edition of Mobile World Congress welcomed over 2400 exhibitors and 107,000 visitors.
