It's a ‘physically demanding’ sector but has the highest average age of workers living in the country at 42.7
Across Europe, the labour force is ageing. In Luxembourg, this is particularly visible in the construction sector which now boasts the second oldest cohort of workers across the entire economy.
In construction, traditionally dominated by the Portuguese community, the average age of a worker is 42.7 years, putting it second after real estate, which tops the ageing table by sector at 43.1 years, according to the study "Workers are getting wrinkles" by the Fondation Idea think tank.
