Mexico is the 2nd largest economy in Latin America after Brazil. It has a free market economy which is increasingly dominated by the private sector. After being hit by the global economic downturn, Mexico's economy is expected to grow by 3.3% in 2012. The industry of Mexico contributed 33% of the country's GDP in 2010. Some of the major sectors in Mexico include the automotive industry, electronics, chemicals, and ICT. In 2010, services contributed 62% to the nation's overall GDP, with two of its most important sectors being financial and banking services and tourism.

The economy of Brazil is the world's sixth largest by nominal GDP and is expected to become fifth by the end of 2012. Brazil is one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world with an average annual GDP growth rate of over 5 percent. Along with the rapid expansion of its economy, Brazil has expanded various sectors of its economy, such as the industrial sector, which is the second biggest in the Americas and includes sectors such as automobile, machinery and equipment, cement, computers, aircrafts, steel and petrochemicals. The rapid expansion of the services sector has helped to bring down the nation's unemployment rate for the past 5 years.
