Official Mission to India

The Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in close cooperation with the Ministry of the Economy and the Agency “Luxembourg for Business”, will organize a multi-sectoral mission to India. The Official Mission will be led by Mr Etienne Schneider, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy and will last from 29th of February until 5th of March 2016. The mission will start in New Delhi and/or Gurgaon (1st and 2nd of March) before heading to Mumbai (3rd and 4th of March).

Since India is developing more and more into an open-market economy, economic liberalization measures, including industrial deregulation and reduced controls on foreign trade and investment, served to accelerate the country's growth. After a GDP growth average under 7% per year from 1997 to 2011, India recorded, after 3 more difficult years a blockbuster figure of 7.5% in the fiscal year 2014-2015. Despite the fact that India's economic growth began slowing in 2011, investors' perceptions of India improved in early 2014, due to a reduction of the current account deficit and expectations of post-election economic reforms, resulting in a surge of inbound capital flows and stabilization of the rupee. On top, India has capitalized on its large educated English-speaking population to become a major exporter of information technologies services, business outsourcing services, and software workers. Today, India is promoting several fast growing sectors like logistics and eco-technologies, which do provide increasing opportunities for Luxembourg companies. To foster and strengthen the bilateral relationships between Luxembourg and India, this mission will undoubtedly be an excellent occasion to learn on the ground about India in general and recent Indian policies like DIGITAL India, Make in India or the Smart City initiative in particular.

Seminars and business receptions will be organized in Delhi and Mumbai. Participating companies from Luxembourg may request business meetings with local companies or institutions in Delhi/Gurgaon and Mumbai.
