The Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has the pleasure to invite you to the roundtable discussion "Singapore’s 2018 ASEAN Chairmanship: Priorities, Challenges and Opportunities” with H.E. Mr. Jaya Ratnam, Ambassador of the Republic of Singapore to Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the European Union, on Friday, 4th of May 2018 from 08:30 - 10:00 on the premises of the Chamber of Commerce (7, rue Alcide de Gasperi, Luxembourg).

Singapore took over the Chairmanship of ASEAN in January 2018, and will take over the Coordinatorship of the ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relationship from August 2018 for a period of three years.  The ASEAN Leaders will gather in Singapore from 25 to 28 April 2018 for the 32nd ASEAN Summit.  The Summit, which is the first gathering of ASEAN Leaders in Singapore this year, will focus on ASEAN’s priorities, challenges and opportunities for the year ahead.  The ASEAN Leaders will also to discuss key regional and international developments.

The themes for Singapore’s 2018 ASEAN Chairmanship are “Resilience” and “Innovation”. Building ASEAN’s resilience will shape Singapore’s vision for ASEAN to be united in the face of growing uncertainties in the global strategic landscape. An innovative ASEAN would focus on schemes that capitalise on making the region more forward-looking and adaptable, especially to the digital revolution, and help achieve a goal of a more integrated and better connected region.  To this end, one of Singapore’s key deliverables would be to develop an ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the digital revolution.

Both the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore support the promotion of bilateral exchanges between both countries. This roundtable will be a unique opportunity for companies with a vested interest in Singapore to hear from Ambassador Ratnam on the main outcomes of the 32nd ASEAN Summit, including the latest developments and opportunities in ASEAN-EU relations.
