Trade fair visit to Mobile World Congress and 4YFN in Barcelona

For the 2nd time, the Chamber of Commerce visited the Mobile World Congress and the startup fair 4YFN from 26th to 29th of February 2024 in Barcelona joined by 14 Luxembourgish companies to explore the power of connectivity and to discover the latest innovations in the health, sustainability, retail, sports, mobility, entertainment and robotics industries.

Elisabeth Margue, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for Media and Connectivity also travelled to Barcelona to visit the fair. On Monday 26th of February, she welcomed Luxembourgish and Spanish companies at an official reception organised by the Chamber of Commerce and the Department of Service, Media & Communication of the Ministry of State, with the support of the Embassy of Luxembourg in Madrid.  As an important telecom operator and technology provider in Luxembourg, POST Telecom hosted the Luxembourg delegation for a networking dinner on Wednesday 28th February.

Organised by GSMA, the 2024 edition of MWC Barcelona allowed tech giants, telecom operators as well as country pavilions to allow visitors a glimpse of the latest technological developments in the making. Guided tours of the stands of Luxembourgish companies including to NTT DATA and SES Satellites with a presentation on private 5G networks were also part of the visit. Ericsson and Viavi Solutions completed the programme of the guided tours.

4YFN showcased the latest developments of young companies from all over the world.
The participants also had a chance to participate in the Open Innovation Challenge organised by the Enterprise Europe Network Barcelona that proactively enabled business meetings between corporates/investors and technology providers.

Another highlight of the MWC was the session “Never too young to lead” moderated by Luxembourg’s own Ms Avanti Sharama, a young Technology Specialist. Not only is she known for her TEDx about “How an iGen would implement the Sustainable Development Goals”, Avanti is also regularly presenting her ideas on international forums and has received the ‘Aspiring Teen Award’ at the Women In Tech Europe Awards in 2023.

Overall, the MWC welcomed over 101,000 attendees from 205 countries and territories and gave a platform to over 2,700 exhibitors, sponsors and partners in 2024. Next year’s Mobile World Congress will take place from 3 – 6 March 2025.
