On 11 May 2026, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with SYVICOL and the Chinese Embassy, hosted a networking lunch on the occasion of the visit of a high-level delegation of mayors from six major Chinese cities: Changzhou, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Ma’an Shan, Shanghai Pudong New Area, and Zhengzhou.

The event brought together representatives from the Chinese delegation, Luxembourgish municipalities, and companies active in or interested in the Chinese market. It offered a valuable platform to foster dialogue, exchange best practices, and explore new avenues for cooperation at both municipal and business levels.

In his welcome address, Fernand Ernster, President of the Chamber of Commerce highlighted the strong and evolving relationship between Luxembourg and China, underlining its dynamic and forward-looking nature. He emphasized Luxembourg’s international outlook, its diversified and innovation-driven economy, and its recognised expertise in key sectors such as finance, logistics, space technologies, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

Participants gained insights into Luxembourg’s economic ecosystem, followed by presentations from the Chinese mayors, who showcased their cities’ economic strengths, development priorities, and opportunities for international cooperation.

The networking lunch provided an opportunity for direct exchanges enabling participants to identify synergies and initiate potential partnerships. Discussions reflected a shared ambition to deepen collaboration and translate dialogue into concrete business opportunities.

Particular attention was given to the upcoming official trade mission to China, scheduled from 19 to 25 September 2026. The mission will support Luxembourg companies in exploring and expanding their activities in the Chinese market and is expected to serve as a catalyst for new projects and strengthened bilateral cooperation.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Emile Eicher, President of SYVICOL, and Mindao Yuan, Vice-President of the APCAE, who reaffirmed the importance of sustained dialogue between local authorities and economic stakeholders.

By bringing together public and private actors from both countries, the event once again demonstrated the value of international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world, reinforcing Luxembourg’s role as a gateway for European Chinese partnerships.
