Trade Mission to China with the visit at the 2nd edition of China International Import Expo (CIIE)

The Chamber of Commerce of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has the pleasure of inviting you to join its Trade Mission to China on 4-8 November 2019. This mission will be led by the President of the Chamber of Commerce, former Minister of Finance, Mr Luc Frieden, and will be organised in close collaboration with the Ministry of the Economy, The Consulate General of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Trade and Investment Office (LTIO) – Shanghai, and with the support of the China-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (CHINALUX) in Luxembourg.

The mission will visit three cities: Zhengzhou, Shanghai and Nanjing and will focus on the following sectors: Logistics & E-Commerce, Import and Export of Consumer Goods, as well as Innovation.

Zhengzhou

The capital of Henan Province is one of the most important and integrated logistics hubs in China. The two-hour aviation circle covers about 90% of China's population and economic aggregate, while the two-hour high-speed rail covers 700 million people. This is the second visit to Zhengzhou by a Luxembourg business delegation. The last mission of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce to China was the ‘Belt and Road Mission’ in 2017 and brought 36 business people to Zhengzhou and opened the ‘Air Silk Road’ between China and Luxembourg.

The 3rd Henan – Luxembourg Belt and Road Economic Forum will be organised as part of the visit to Zhengzhou. The Luxembourg delegation will meet with logistics and e-commerce professionals from the province and all over China. The delegation will also visit the Henan – Luxembourg Center project in the Zhengzhou New District, with 12.87 hectares of land available for construction, a building area of approximately 388,000 square metres, and an investment budget of approximately RMB 5.4 billion. The project started in 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2021.

Shanghai

With the world's largest population, China is the second largest economy, as well as the second largest importer and consumer in the world. Now China has entered a new development stage which sees consumption increasing, indicating enormous potential for the growth of consumption and import. In the next five years, China is expecting to import products and services valuing more than USD 10 trillion, which provides an historic opportunity for enterprises across the world to enter the huge Chinese market.

The China International Import Expo (CIIE) is a trade fair that started in 2018 in Shanghai, China, which will be held annually in the autumn. It is the world's first import-themed national-level expo. It will feature exhibitions of multiple countries and businesses and the Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum. CIIE was initiated by Xi Jinping, Chairman and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China. The expo is co-hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of China and the Shanghai Municipal Government. Its partners include the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). An accompanied visit at the fair will be organised and the delegation will also have opportunities to meet representatives from Chinese businesses and individual customers.

In the context of this visit, the Consulate General of Luxembourg in Shanghai and LTIO-Shanghai will organise a workshop to give an update and evaluation on the Chinese market and further advise delegates on ‘How to do business with China’.

Nanjing

As one of China's four ancient capitals and the capital city of Jiangsu Province, the city of Nanjing is just one hour by high speed train from Shanghai, and both Shanghai and Nanjing belong to the Yangtze River Delta Urban Group, which plays an important role in Chinese modernisation and opening to the outside world. It is an important platform for China to participate in international competition, and the region has the best urbanisation foundation, best economic growth, and strongest capacity for scientific and technological innovation in China.

Nanjing and Jiangsu Province are at the intersection of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Nanjing’s GDP is more than RMB one trillion (over EUR 120 billion) and its population exceeds 8 million. Nanjing is an important comprehensive industrial production base and advanced manufacturing base in China, and is an important regional financial and business centre, service outsourcing base, and software export innovation base in China. Nanjing is also an industrial technology research and development hub, hosting many R & D centres and institutions, especially in areas of electronics, information technology, computer software, biotechnology and pharmaceutical technology, and new material technology.

The Nanjing-Luxembourg Overseas Coordination Innovation Centre was inaugurated in Luxembourg in May 2019 and an MoU was signed with CHINALUX during the second visit of the Nanjing delegation to Luxembourg. The mission will host a ‘Luxembourg, innovation hub in Europe’ forum and organise B2B matchmaking between Luxembourg and local companies. The delegation will also visit one of the 15 high-tech parks in Nanjing.
