On 6 June, the Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of welcoming an incoming delegation from Kazakhstan. This event followed the trade mission to Almaty and Astana in 2023 and the country-seminar on Kazakhstan held in 2024, marking a natural continuation of the growing bilateral cooperation.
Organised together with the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, the event brought together institutional representatives and business leaders from both countries.
The programme began with an overview of Luxembourg’s economic landscape and its global positioning within institutions, presented by Jil Brimaire, Economist at the Chamber of Commerce. Lynn Meyers, Business Consultant at the House of Entrepreneurship (HoE), outlined the HoE’s mission: supporting business creation, development, as well as promoting digitalisation, financing, and internationalisation.
Cindy Tereba, CTO and Director of International Affairs at the Chamber of Commerce, highlighted Luxembourg’s openness to international cooperation. Mr. Denis van den Weghe, President of the BeNeLux Chamber of Commerce in Kazakhstan, underlined the significance of deepening economic ties between the Benelux region and Kazakhstan. Mr. Aidar Akkazynov, Counselor at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Luxembourg, and H.E. Mr. Tom Reisen, Ambassador of Luxembourg to Kazakhstan, both stressed the mutual benefits of enhanced economic cooperation.
Mr. Timur Onzhanov, Vice-Chairman of the Management Board of Baiterek National Managing Holding, presented Baiterek’s central role in Kazakhstan’s economic development, particularly in financing, innovation, and entrepreneurship through its subsidiaries and support mechanisms.
The event concluded with a networking lunch, offering participants from Luxembourg and Kazakhstan the opportunity to exchange and explore potential collaborations.
Kazakhstan’s strategic location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes it an attractive partner for European countries. Luxembourg and the EU are committed to deepening engagement with Central Asia by reducing trade barriers and facilitating visa processes. Luxembourg’s expertise in financial and technological services aligns with Kazakhstan’s development ambitions. Opportunities were identified in sectors such as construction, logistics, finance, and fintech.
