Mastering export procedures: discover the tools and support a seamless international journey!

Exporting involves a wide range of procedures that may seem complex, particularly for companies navigating this process for the first time. Understanding export formalities and obligations is essential to ensure seamless operations.

The last 2025 chapter of the “Navigating Global Markets” series, “Mastering the Essentials for your Exports”, was designed to highlight the national and EU level resources available to help companies manage their export procedures effectively.

Held on 26 November, the event was a collaborative initiative of the Chamber of Commerce and its Enterprise Europe Network together with the House of Entrepreneurship, the House of Training offering participants a comprehensive overview of support measures at their disposal.

Customs formalities, prohibitions & restrictions

To open the webinar, the Customs and Excise Administration introduced the subject by outlining what companies must consider when exporting their goods internationally. Frank Schweitzer, Inspecteur Principal 1er en rang, General Customs and Excise Inspectorate, delivered an overview of the customs formalities that companies need to fulfill when trading abroad. Building on this presentation, Olivier Seil, Contrôleur Adjoint, General Inspectorate for security operations, underlined critical aspects of international trade – prohibitions and restrictions. Goods subject to sanitary or energy regulations, as well as dual-use goods require additional procedures and controls. Awareness on these rules is vital for companies to ensure compliance and avoid disruptions in their export operations.

National and EU tools to help you navigate your export

Securing international operations is crucial to mitigate risks when trading abroad. Camille Schneider, Entrepreneurship Administrative Assistant at the House of Entrepreneurship presented the official export documents namely the ATA Carnet and the Certificate of Origin. These documents simplify customs procedures and facilitate smooth transactions.

Companies preparing their international trade operations can access the exhaustive information provided in the Access2Markets portal, developed by the European Commission. Petya Popova, from the Access2Markets team of the Directorate General TRADE, demonstrated how the tool “My Trade Assistant” allows companies to obtain critical information regarding their foreseen operations with ease. These include the required procedures and documents, potential tariffs, possible restrictions, the rule of origin for the concerned goods, news about free-trade agreements, and other international trade updates.

Representing Artec3D, a company headquartered in Luxembourg that are exporting their scanners all around the world, Sergey Sukhovey, Chief Experience Officer and Director, shared how the company manages to navigate export formalities all around the globe thanks to the available subsidiaries while making the most of the support available.

Going further – Training opportunities

For companies wishing to gain deeper insights regarding customs and export procedures, the House of Training offers 2 specialised trainings to help companies master every step of the export process:

  • InCoTerms: the ICC rules for the use of domestic and international trade terms

  • How to become a customs representative and / or authorised economic operator.

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session between participants and experts, reinforcing the practical resources available to support companies in their export operations.
