Although public procurement may initially appear complex, it presents compelling opportunities for businesses aiming to expand their international reach. The latest chapter of the “Navigating Global Markets” series, held on 20 May 2025, focused on the theme “Expanding Your Global Outreach Through Public Procurement.” This webinar aimed to demystify the world of public tenders and demonstrated the opportunities it offers to tap into high-value contracts. Public procurement can also help enhance the credibility of companies on the international stage.
Opening the event with an insightful keynote speech, Jacques-Félix Wirtz, Director for Government and Public Sector Consulting at PwC Luxembourg, presented a practical and insightful perspective on the challenges and rewards of international B2G. He emphasised that engaging with the public sector – particularly across borders - requires a fundamental shift in mindset. Navigating varying legal frameworks, administrative procedures and business cultures demands thorough preparation and adaptability. The implementation of formal obligations, such as e-procedures, presents an opportunity for companies to reassess and enhance their internal processes to ensure compliance with the requirements.
The webinar continued with a fireside chat with Dagmar Lübeck, Head of Procurement Advisory Center, IHK/HWK Rhineland-Palatinate, to underline the support mechanisms offered to companies venturing into public procurement on an international level. Ms Lübeck underscored that public procurement often requires a well-structured allocation of resources. A great tip she shared was to make the most of existing tools and services that can significantly help save time and effort.
Thomas Brice, Junior Advisor at the International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce, presented the Tender Alert service that helps Luxembourg companies access this domain. This service simplifies access to public procurement opportunities, particularly for SMEs, through personalised guidance and identification of relevant calls for tenders and tailored tender notices based on predefined criteria. The three packages offered enable companies to receive relevant documents according to their activities and needs, published by institutions all over the world.
Concluding with an interactive session between participants and experts, this webinar showcased the significant value of public procurement as a pathway to global expansion.
