On the occasion of the official visit of the Prime Minister of Vietnam Mr. Phạm Minh Chính to Luxembourg, the Chamber of Commerce, in close cooperation with the Embassy of Vietnam in Brussels and the Luxembourg Embassy to Vietnam in Bangkok, organised the Luxembourg-Vietnam Business Forum on 9 December 2022.

The Vietnamese delegation, composed of members of the Vietnamese Government and key players of the private sector, was warmly welcomed by Mr Carlo Thelen, CEO of the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Mr. Lex Delles, Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Tourism. At the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Lex Delles recalled the strong historical links that unite these two territories and the absolute necessity to strengthen and develop new partnerships, institutional, touristic, economic and academic, especially as Vietnam and Luxembourg will celebrate in 2023, 50 years of diplomatic relations. Mr. Carlo Thelen underlined that Vietnam is currently Luxembourg’s 9th biggest partner outside the EU. The volume of goods trade has grown spectacularly in recent years, reaching EUR 157.9 million in 2021. To enhance bilateral relations four memoranda of understanding have been signed, between the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and Vietrade, the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency, Luxaviation and Thien Minh Group,  EVN and Balbock and Wilson and finally the Ecole d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Luxembourg (EHTL) and Hong Quang Business Consulting Company Limited (HQBC). The latter MoU features a cooperation project to promote vocational training in tourism and hospitality management in several locations around Vietnam.

Potential benefits of the Trade and Investment Protection Agreement that the EU and Vietnam signed in 2019 were highlighted by Mr. Orlando Pinto, Deputy Director at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg while representatives of BMedical Systems and Paul Wurth SA shared their experiences gained in Vietnam with the audience. The event was concluded festively with an official networking reception. 100 participants were hosted in the foyer of the Chamber of Commerce to get in touch with key partners.

Save the date! The Chamber of Commerce is planning an official mission to Vietnam from 2 to 5 May 2023. Details will be available soon here
