International Affairs

Luxembourg Trade & Invest, in partnership with Germany Trade & Invest, organised the ‘Go International: Germany’ webinar on 26 November 2020.

The event is part of a series of webinars introducing the Luxembourg Trade & Invest network around the globe and presenting their services as well as opportunities for Luxembourg companies in their respective markets.

Mrs Cindy Tereba, Director of International Affairs at the Chamber of Commerce, opened the webinar by introducing the audience to Luxembourg Trade and Invest: in addition to the 9 LTIO offices outside of Europe, there are currently four trade attachés based at Luxembourg embassies in Europe (Berlin, Paris, with an antenna in Marseille, Brussels and London). The trade representatives operate under the umbrella of Luxembourg Trade and Invest, which is supported by the Ministry of the Economy, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. They coordinate and support Luxembourg companies in their efforts to go international.

The Berlin Office was founded in 2012 as the first of its kind in Europe, due to the importance of the German market for the Luxembourg economy. Germany is Luxembourg’s largest trade partner and both countries share a longstanding trusted economic and commercial relationship. Following the introduction, Mrs Julie Jacobs, economic and trade attaché at the embassy of Luxembourg in Germany, presented the services offered by the Trade Office in Berlin. She informed participants on the activities of the Business Club Luxemburg e.V., which was founded by and for German and Luxembourg companies active in or willing to expand their business to the respective markets.

Mrs Jacobs then gave the floor to Mr Thorsten Pauly, Director for Luxembourg at Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), who shared his perspective on the bilateral trade relationship. Mr Pauly emphasised that, unlike common perception, in Germany, ‘it is not the size of the company that matters, but the quality of the product that will lead to success’. Following his presentation, Mr Daniel Stephens, Investor Services Support Manager at GTAI, focused on the German response to Covid and the financing opportunities as well as incentives for incoming investors.

Finally, Mr Detlef Welsch, Key Account Manager Public & EU Institutions at POST Telecom for Business, illustrated in a testimonial the company’s experience and success in doing business in Germany.
